It’s almost Valentine’s Day and I’m sure you’ve already been thinking about how to handle it without it throwing you off track. I know I have. The holidays are always difficult when you’re living a healthy lifestyle, but they don’t have to be. I’ve put together a list of healthy Valentine’s Day date ideas to help keep you on track and won’t break the bank!
I don’t know about you, but I very rarely ever workout in front of anyone. I look like an epileptic troll and, let’s face, that’s far from romantic. What I mean here is to take a walk, go on a hike, or take a bike ride. Obviously, this is dependent on the weather in your area. Over here in Maryland, we tend to get slammed with snow this time of year. So, in my case, I’d have a snowball fight with the hubs. It’s cardio and it’s something we can do together.
Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you have to spend a small fortune to show your SO how much they mean to you. Whether you have the budget for it or not, skip dining out this year and eat in. You have much more control over what’s in your food and your portions than if you eat out. Make it a couples thing; cook something new together! Set the table nicely, including candles, exchange cards/gifts, and enjoy each others company. Got kids? You have 2 options here: 1) find a sitter (family member, friend, etc) or 2) send the kiddos to bed before you have dinner.
Dancing is a great way to burn calories and keep you active. What better reason to go dancing than it’s Valentine’s Day?! Don’t have the funds to go out? No problem. There’s these new fangled things called apps – Pandora has one, so does iHeartRadio. Turn on one of those and turn your living room into party central! If you’re in a situation like me (my husband only slow dances), take full advantage of slow dancing to every damn song you can. You’re still active, getting in your steps, while being wrapped in your SO’s arms.
Make Your Own Sweets
Ugh…chocolate! I love it. Who doesn’t?! But, it’s not good for anyone’s healthy lifestyle. Unless it’s dark chocolate. That shit has some bad ass health benefits that we should ALL be taking advantage of. Find a healthy recipe for fruit dip or make your own dark chocolate fondue. Dip some strawberries in it and you’ve got your healthy Valentine’s Day candy without all the crap. It’s the best of both worlds if you ask me.
So, there ya go. There’s no excuse for not having a healthy Valentine’s Day this year. It’s so easy to tell yourself that you’ll get back on track “after the holidays” but don’t fall for that. It’s a trap! Be sure you tell your SO about these ideas so he/she doesn’t work against you unknowingly. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you spend this Valentine’s Day with the one you love and enjoy yourself.
